Why did the propeller of the aircraft I was on recently look like this? Can you work it out?

I am going to guess that you had the shutter speed cranked up crazy-fast, to the point where it’s sweeping a narrow strip across the frame rather than exposing the whole frame at once.
Did a bit of research, it’s due to the CMOS sensor in the iPad, right, but if CMOS sensors have these flaws (as opposed to the CCD sensors) then why are the CMOS ones used?

Yup. It’s an iPad picture.
A very very wide angle lens to induce all that curvature?
It’s the shutter being scanned up to down that does this… 🙂

Rolling Shutter effect (Image distorsion) when using a digital camera (CCD Device) and an object in motion.
Exactly. iPad scans the sensor up to down.
Cool shot all the same. Cheers Michael
Thanks!
